South to Oregon, 9

As the title says, we have turned around.  Left Valdez on Wednesday, having arrived on Monday.  Tuesday morning we were notified that Elwyn's mother had taken a turn toward for the 'expected'.  We decided to return home.  The camp ground graciously refunded the difference, as we had paid for a week. Then at 10:00pm (Alaska time) we received a call from her care provider to say she had just passed away.  Thankfully in her sleep.

We will most likely be out of touch until we get home, but will check our email when we can. I will update the blog with pictures and our drive to Valdez and back after we return.

We arrived home on Monday the 28th.  Everything seemed to be going fairly smoothy, as preparations had been made in advance for Willene's interment.  However, CA law seems to have a different opinion.  So, even though the family handled everything as she wished, Forest Lawn, Long Beach, dropped the ball and threw a wrench into it at the last minute...literally.  So, on Tuesday (7/6) at noon (we were having lunch in a restaurant) Elwyn received a call stating that all the siblings had to sign a document of authorization of interment and have it notarized.  They stated that they couldn't inter her as she hadn't indicated, in writing, that those were her wishes.  Gee, she had the deed to the crypt and that was what we took with us in 2008 when all the arrangements were made.  Since we had been working on this since the 28th...don't you think someone would have mentioned that!  Well, as it turned out we requested to speak with one of Forest Lawns VP's...at least I think that is what he is...and he said he would only need two signatures...a majority of the children...and would also wave the notary requirement.  Elwyn had previously signed one, so his sister Nancy did that this morning at her bank and faxed it back.

Good news is...her earthly body is now where it belongs and I'm sure she is having a good laugh about all of this.  And actually, right now I'm smiling too.
