TWO AND A HALF WEEKS ON THE ROAD - 11/14/13

Hard to believe it has been that long since we left. So, as Cleo is sleeping, she does a lot of that lately, I’ll (Judy) update you as to where we have been, where we are and where we are going, other than crazy.
I  had an appointment with the acupuncturist the morning of our departure and wanted to keep it, or we might have left a day or two sooner. The bummer is, when I got there and was already for my treatment, I was told that I had called and cancelled the appointment! What? I know I’m getting old, but not that old! So, I graciously declined the offer to work me in and left. When the appointment was scheduled, I mentioned that the date was later than I liked and to add me to the cancellation list, so if an earlier appointment became available I would take it. I said that I wanted to keep the 29th and would call if we left sooner. The receptionist gave me the appointment card and I left. But, I think she had erased my appointment and just forgot to write it in again. As this acupuncturist is awesome, I will go back to her when we return. Was just a screw up. Oh well, we all make them. Right, Obama?
10/29 - Headed out mid-afternoon and after fueling up at the local Shell Station, headed south on Hwy 101. We arrived at Mad River Rapids RV Park in Arcata, CA around 4:30p. We have stayed here often as it is convenient for lumber shopping and not too far from Eureka. Elwyn likes to stay here when we are on the home bound leg of a journey so he can buy more wood.
10/31 – This morning we left at 10:00a heading for Lodi, CA. A longer drive than we like to do, but plan on visiting family and friends from this location. Arrived at 5:00p and settled in at Flag City RV Park. We like to stay here since it is a central location to the areas of our visits. Since the weather in Tahoe seems iffy we are going to pass on driving up to see Dave, Louanna, and family. Will do that in March on the home bound leg of our trip.
11/1 – We had a nice visit with Steve at an early Birthday lunch in Pleasanton. He also serenaded us in the parking lot with his newly acquired Dobro. (I’ve no clue how to spell that.)

Our lunch and visit was wonderful! Here is a photo of him with mom on one shoulder and dad on the other. ☺ Don’t see us…look closer. He was so serious in this photo, but was the best one  I took of the three of us! LOL  Want him to know that we are always there, looking over his shoulders.
Surprised smile    We discovered ants! Yep…ANTS! They were everywhere! I first saw them in the bathroom…just a few. But upon further inspection…there were hundreds, no…thousands of them.
So, I’m cheating and reprinting what I posted on FB.
11/2 - ANTS!!!! That is what invaded our motor home late yesterday (11/1) evening! We didn't discover them until about 9:15...so we were up until almost 10:30 trying to get rid of the 'little buggers". Didn't have any spray, and won't use it anyway because of the cat. At first we couldn't find where they were coming in. But there were 1000's of the little 'piss' ants from the front of the coach to the bath... area. Finally, after using 'Clorox wipes' and using vinegar on a paper towel, then picking up rugs, we discovered they were coming in the passenger slide from the roof. Of course we had already checked all around the outside with flashlights. Guess we didn't realize that the branches of the tree were resting on top of the slide. So we pulled in that slide. Hundred's more ran down and onto the floor. E had the broom and was sweeping them out the door as fast as he could. Okay...think about it. It is 10:00 pm and the crazy folks in #38 are running around with flashlights, inside and outside, with a broom and talking about some 'piss ants' and using a few choice words to describe them. Laughing out loud To bad it wasn't Halloween, that may have made sense. E asked the park to trim the branches this a.m. It is now noon, and so he is out doing his own tree trimming and talking to our neighbors about our 'piss ant' problem. Really, they are so little, you can't kill them by stepping on them! LOL
(It actually took more than a week to finally be ant free. Haven’t seen any for several days!)
Beautiful drive to the Zeugin’s in Valley Springs, CA! They live in God’s Country located at the edge of California’s Gold Country. Spent the afternoon at their lovely home getting caught up on things. Of course Harv and Elwyn talked a lot about Intarsia and fishing while Jan and I talk about many things including families. We enjoyed dinner with them at Teresa’s and a photo of the four of us is the first post on the blog this trip.
11/3 – Destination Bakersfield, CA, and another long day of driving. Wind was very gusty until we reached Patterson on the I-5 then became more of a tail wind. Arrived Orange Grove RV Park around 6:00p. We always like to stay here as it is east of Bakersfield on Hwy 58. If you visit between December and March you can pick oranges right off the trees that line your site. Or you can go around the corner to the Fruit and Nut Depot and purchase them as well as other tasty items. Hope there are still oranges on the trees when we come back in March.
11/4 – Havasu City, AZ - Third long day of driving and a time zone change. As George and Helga are heading west on I-40 and we are heading east, we agreed to meet up at Havasu Falls RV Resort to visit and exchange hugs & good-bye’s. They just sold their home in ECE (where we live) and are moving back to Santa Barbara in December. We pulled in right next to them about 5 o’clock and everyone agreed that it is Dinner OUT!
1st night we ate at the Black Bear Dinner and it was just so, so. The 2nd night we upgraded to Shugrue’s, a fine dining establishment located on the Island. By the way, you use the famous London Bridge to get to the Island at Lake Havasu. No photos were taken at dinner or of the bridge. However, as we left the restaurant, these were taken while getting wind blown.  (I ‘adjusted’ everyone’s hair as it was very windy.)

We will miss them, a LOT! We wish them well on the next phase of their journey. And expect to meet up with them again, and again, on roads well traveled.
Heading out to Augie’s Quail Trail RV Resort in Gila Bend, AZ tomorrow - 11/6.
See you on the road…  E & J
