We arrived on Wednesday, 11/13/13. Just a day later than we had wanted, due to the slide cover issue. Mill Creek Ranch Resort is not only an RV Resort, they also have Cabins (we call them park models) for rent and for sale. Large place with several ponds through-out and 4 can be fished. Below is a photo that was taken from our window shortly after we arrived. This in called Walden Pond. You can fish from the dock (not seen here) or take one of the foot propelled boats out on the pond.
Visited with Frances and Randy and Elwyn got the full tour of Randy’s Studio. He is also an Intarsia Artist and has some very interesting items. One he has just finished is a Long-Horned Steer. It should sell well here in Texas. But Elwyn also has plans on doing one as well.
Frances gave me the tour of their home. It is by far the best laid-out and well planned home I’ve ever been in! Awesome is the only word that describes it. It is 5 bedrooms and 3 baths on a single level with large front and back yard. Beautiful patio, and a half circle drive in the front. Kitchen is to die for! We will be having Turkey Day with them and family. Football is going to be the afternoons entertainment. They all are Cowboy fans and we will be rooting for the Raiders, so are out-numbered. Hummmm…may have to exit early and quietly with all the leftovers…LOL.
Randy drove us to Winnsboro for this event. It was quite nice, with vendors, food, and re-enactments. People dressed in western wear and some in period costumes. The little pony was just tuckered out. A real blacksmith at work and a few wild west men just shooting the breeze.
That evening Elwyn drove us to Athens, with Randy’s directions, to view the wonderful display of Christmas Lights and displays. 1 mile long, 4 million lights, 50 motion controlled lighted scenes with related music, 6 tunnels, 8 arches, 2000 wood cutouts. There is one steep grade that drops down to a pond and then back up again. On the loop back you come back by the pond again. Sorry the photos are not great, but Frances and I were in the back seat and in a moving car that wasn’t suppose to stop. We did and she took some and I took some. It was fun, it wasn’t cold or raining, so the windows could be rolled down.
Thanks Randy and Frances for a GREAT TIME.
I wanted to take some photos of the trees, our RV site and the pond. The place is almost empty, but we were assured that the only reason we got this premium site for the full 3 weeks, is that they had a cancellation. At the time these were taken we were one of maybe 5 or 6 RV’s in the whole place!!! And none were in the area we are located in. It is because of Canton’s 1st Monday Trade Days starting on Thanksgiving Day that they will fill up…at least that is what we have been told. I’ll take a photo of our site then to see if it is true. But from what we have seen and heard, it will become full and the town is full of folks shopping. Like Quartzsite, AZ, but not as spread out…maybe.
This was fun…and I took a lot of photos of him fishing. He caught several small ones and I caught him with a larger one. A perch I’m guessing. At least it isn’t a Gold Fish or Koi that our Heron gets from the Emerald Coast Pond across from our home in Brookings.
Thanks Frances and Randy for the wonderful dinner at Logo del Pino in Tyler, Texas. The rose corsage was unexpected and made me feel very special on my B-Day. (I still have it in the frig.) What a very special restaurant, a beautiful location along with awesome food and service. Also thank you for sharing your first date location with us.
By the way, readers of this blog, I didn’t drink the whole bottle. Very delicious French wine was shared with all. However, I do think Frances and I had most of it.
The little boy caught his first fish shortly after I took the photo. He was so happy and just jumped and danced around. Was fun to watch…he caught a few more, so his father told me. They also took the boats out for a nice ride on the pond. A FAMILY HAVING FUN!
Cleo hasn’t been feeling well. Too much stress regarding the motor home seems to have affected her too!
More next time….
